One year ago today, Maeve was born!

While I grew her, I knew that I would love her…just how much, I had no idea! The joy Maeve has brought to my life is a gift I will truly treasure forever. A gift I hope to be able to enjoy for years and years. A gift that no words can really describe. A gift that is motherhood.

Many times I look at her, and it hurts. It hurts because I want so much greatness for her and nothing bad to ever happen. I feel like I cannot love her enough, but I will try…every day I will try.

In addition to the joy Maeve has brought me, she has brought me a deeper love for my husband. I have watched him love, support, encourage, and nuture us both in a way that is intoxicating. I simply cannot get enough of watching him love our daughter. Babe…we have made it through Maevey’s first year! We have made it with very little sleep, Maeve not taking a bottle, and through her first childhood illness. We have made it through with a very happy and healthy child. Thank you so much for the hard work and dedication you have shown us both.

One of them is regaurding Maeve’s food and eating habits. I have heard so many mothers complain about their child/ren being picky eaters. And while I absolutely understand that there certainly ARE those picky children, I also thought it had a lot to do with what they were feeding their children (which I still think is true to some degree).

When we really started introducing different foods to Maeve, she was on it! She would eat just about anything, and it was wonderful. So wonderful in fact, that we thought that we were doing a really good job at making her like her veggies and all that good stuff. Ummmm…we were wrong!!! Soooooo wrong. The little turkey has, in the past few weeks, developed an opinion!! And when I say opinion, I mean like close her mouth, purse her lips, shake her head kind of an opinion. She thinks she is all grown up now and ONLY wants to eat what is on our plates. We will even scoop food onto her spoon (which she has also decided that she needs a big person spoon or fork), and then pretend to scoop from our plate as well, so she’ll eat it. Well, that worked for about the first week. Then she realized that we weren’t actually putting our food on her spoon. So then we would scoop her food and top it with something from our plate…even if we are all eating the same thing!!! Oh, and to top things off…she really insists on feeding herself! Stinker!!!!

Needless to say, we have a very picky eater on our hands! And it is TRICKY!!!

She does, however, like blueberry pancakes!! Daddy made us gluten free, blueberry pancakes for breakfast the other am. They were delish, and Maeve loved them…thankfully! She was being so cute (naturally), so we decided to share…

Blueberry pancakes are equally as good when put into the ear…

She melts me…even when her face is covered with food…

So… to all those mothers and fathers of picky eaters…I FEEL YA! I do!

And now…she’s 2 years old!!! What’s even more hard to believe is the fact that when we met the Davis family, they were just a really great family that we were excited to have as new clients. And now…they are so very dear to us. Maria and I have turned our client/photographer relationship into an incredible friendship that I couldn’t image not having. After all, she is my BTF!! (For those out there that aren’t familiar…BTF = Best Text Friend! That’s right, we will have full on deep, meaningful conversations via text…and it’s perfect!)

And this shoot was even more special because it’s the last shoot we will do of them as a family of 3 ;) Little Baby Davis will make his/her arrival in November!! Woowoooo!

The weather was perfect, and everyone was ready to run!! Except me (insert feeling sorry for myself here :( my ankle is still messed up from the 2010 marathon! Boo)!

David ran the half marathon!

My dad ran his second FULL marathon!!

And Darryl ran his very FIRST FULL marathon!

It was so awesome to be able to cheer for them on this wonderful accomplishment. David and Darryl ran together until the split. David had some talky juice on board…aka coffee, and he just talked Darryl’s socks off ;)

My dad was smokin’ right along that I missed him at my first stop! I was able to run the last 3 miles with my dad. It was such a great moment for us, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I can’t say the same for him though ;) He was hurtin’ pretty bad by the time I reached him, but I am so proud of him for perserveering and finishing the race with a PR from his 2010 marathon.

We, of course, got one of those handy little mirrors, so that we could keep an eye on her. In the beginning, it was the constant need to make sure she was okay and still breathing. Then it turned into…I wonder what she’s doing. And then…look how cute she is, and I wonder what she is doing. Then…look how cute she is, I wonder what she is doing. And now…look how cute she is, I wonder what she is doing. Of course I will never stop hoping, praying, and wishing that she is doing okay and still breathing, but the heavy threat has seemed so imminent doesn’t feel quite so heavy…at least for now. So, whether I am driving or in the passenger seat, my need to stare at my beautiful child persists. And this is why…
